1) Development of high sensitivity flow cytometry (HSFCM) to address the challenge of quantitative physical and biochemical characterization of single nanoparticles in nanotechnology, nanobiotechnology, nanomedicine, biopharmaceuticals, and basic science.

2) Specific analysis of individual bacteria for pathogen identification, antibiotic resistance detection, and biological function studies.

3) Development of advanced methodologies for the individual analysis of subcellular organelles such as mitochondria, extracellular vesicles (microvesicles and exosomes), and chromosomes.

4) High-throughput, high-resolution, and multiparameter characterization of single natural and synthetic nanoparticles such as gold, silver, silica, polymeric, and iron oxide nanoparticles, lipid-based nanomedicines, and quantum dots.

5) Development of microsphere-based suspension array technology for biomedical and biochemical applications.
